Glossary
The Language of IVF
Plain-language definitions for the terms you will hear throughout the IVF process — no jargon, just clarity.
ICSI
A single sperm cell injected directly into the cytoplasm of an egg.
PGD
Genetic analysis of embryo cells before transfer, to detect abnormalities.
Blastocyst
A Day 5-6 embryo of about 100 cells, associated with higher implantation rates.
Vitrification
Rapid freezing that preserves eggs, sperm and embryos with very high survival rates.
Unfiltered
“A higher-grade embryo always leads to a successful pregnancy.” Common belief — but not quite true.
